At Shillong Pomlum healthcare 'Nails' like object found in medicines
Shillong: In a rare incident, a man claimed that his daughter found ‘nails’ inside the prescribed medicine, which was prescribed by a government hospital at Pomlum Primary Health Center (PHC) in East Khasi Hills district.
The incident took place on Saturday, September 9, when the mother of the 12-year-old girl went to Pomlum Primary Health Center (PHC), a rural government health care facility in East Khasi Hills district, 14 km from Shillong.
There, she received the prescribed medication. The woman alleged that she found nails inside two amoxicillin tablets out of a strip of 10 capsules given to her by the PHC.
She immediately informed the PHC officials and urged them to take action against those responsible for this shocking oversight.
In response to the complaint, Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh immediately formed a medical team, led by senior experts and a departmental drug inspector, who rushed to the PHC to confirm and investigate the situation.
After evaluation, the minister said that the nail was actually bigger than the capsule itself, thus raising questions about the veracity of the complaint.
She added that all the drugs at other facilities were thoroughly checked for similar complaints, but none were found.
