At MU Landslide alleviation center is establishing in Manipur

Imphal: North East Frontier Railway (NFR) and Manipur University (MU) on Thursday signed an agreement to open a Center for Excellence in Landslide Hazard Management at Manipur University in Imphal.

An MoU was signed in the presence of Anshul Gupta, General Manager, North East Frontier Railway, Kailash Agarwal, Chief Administrative Officer, North East Frontier Railway and Professor N Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University.
The center will provide suggestions for remedial measures to stabilize the slopes along the 111 km long new railway line from Jiribam to Imphal and adjacent hill slopes in Manipur.

Manipur University (MU)  has provided the site and building for the Centre, and experienced and expert faculty have suggested appropriate measures to control slope stability, and landslides as required for railway traffic on the Jiribam-Imphal railway line. An early warning system has been developed for the threats of .
Necessary funding will be provided by North East Frontier Railway, Guwahati.
The Jiribam-Imphal new railway line project, which has already achieved more than 91 percent physical progress, will have 52 tunnels, of which 48 have already been completed. The project will also have a total of 11 major bridges and 129 minor bridges.

One of the bridges over the Ijai River valley nearing completion will be the world’s tallest pier railway bridge at 141 meters.
