At Kohima rally BJP's Nadda claims to resolve Naga issue Soon

KOHIMA: JP Nadda BJP president on Tuesday asserted that the resolution of the Naga political issue is in the final stage as the Narendra Modi government is working tirelessly on it.

Addressing an election rally here, Nadda also said that the promises made by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization, which wanted a separate state, would be fulfilled at all costs.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to resolve the Naga political issue while Union Home Minister Amit Shah has worked tirelessly on it. It has reached its final stage,” the BJP president told the BJP and ally NDP. said in a rally held in support of PK candidates.

He said that Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and state BJP president Temjen Imna Along are witnesses that the Center has made a lot of efforts to solve the decades-old problem.
To find a solution to the decades-old issue, the Center government has been holding separate talks with the NSCN-IM since 1997 and the working committee of the Naga National Political Group (NNPG), which comprises at least seven groups, since 2017.

Modi government signed a framework agreement with NSCN-IM in 2015 and agreed position with NNPGs in 2017. However, the NSCN-IM is yet to find a final solution, sticking to its demand for a separate flag and constitution for the Nagas.
On the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) demand for a separate state, he said he was discussing the issue with the Union Home Minister and whatever was promised would be implemented.
The ENPO, which is demanding a separate state of Frontier Nagaland comprising the six districts of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Shamatore and Noklak, had called for a poll boycott to press for its demand. However, they withdrew it earlier this month.

“We understand the national commitment but also the regional aspirations of the Nagas and we have to move forward together,” he said.
Nadda said that the BJP is determined to move forward in the North-Eastern state under the leadership of NDPP president Rio for the next five years.

The NDPP and the BJP are contesting the February 27 assembly elections with a 40:20 seat-sharing arrangement.

Rio, who was also present at the rally, thanked the Nagaland government for the Centre’s support and assurance of a strong alliance between the NDPP and the BJP.
“We have reached the end of a first term that was successful and delivered a stable government that delivered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the Northeast,” he said.
However, Rio lamented that the Naga political issue is yet to be resolved even though MLAs from all parties have come together.
“60 members of the assembly came together to run a government without an opposition to show that we want a solution. But, I hope that if we continue to work with dedication and determination, a solution will be found. As the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister have shown commitment for a solution, he said.
