GUWAHATI: Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) is organizing a unique event to showcase the products and handicrafts of Divyang entrepreneurs/artisans from across the country, ‘Divya Kala Mela’ from May 11 to 17 at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, in Guwahati.
The event will offer a fascinating experience to the visitors as vibrant products, handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery work and packaged food etc. from different parts of the country including Jammu and Kashmir, North Eastern states will be seen together.
This is a unique initiative of DEPwD towards economic empowerment of PwD/ Divyangjan.
Divya Kala Mela offers a major platform to market and showcase the products and skills of Divyang (PwD).
Divya Kala Mela, Guwahati is the fourth in the series starting from December 2022 (Delhi in December 2022, Mumbai in February 2023 and Bhopal in March 2023).
Around 100 Divyang artisans/artists and industrialists from around 22 states/UTs will showcase their products and skills.
The following broad categories will contain products: home decor and lifestyle, clothing, stationery and eco-friendly products, packaged food and organic products, toys and gifts, personal accessories – jewelry, and clutch bags.
It will be an opportunity for all to ‘raise a voice for the local’ and see the products made by Divyang artisans with their extra commitment.
The seven-day Divya Kala Mela, Guwahati will be open from 10 am to 10 pm and will witness several cultural activities, including performances by devyan artistes and renowned professionals.
Visitors can also enjoy their favorite foods from different regions of the country at the event.
The program will be inaugurated on May 11 at 5 pm by Dr Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI.
Pratima Bhaumik, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment will be present on this occasion.
The department has grand plans to promote the concept, as part of which Divya Kala Mela will be organized across the country.
During 2023-2024, the event will be held in 12 cities starting from Guwahati.
