Boko: A fire broke out at Ayushkalp Hospital in Boko on Thursday morning. According to the hospital’s owner, Dr. Nayan Bharali, the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in a switchboard located in the changing room on the second floor of the hospital.
The incident caused a commotion, but patients were swiftly evacuated to the ground floor. The hospital staff, along with the state fire and emergency service department, managed to extinguish the fire promptly. The quick response of the state fire brigade was praised by both the hospital staff and the local community, as the fire was controlled without any casualties.
Dr. Bharali mentioned that the staff and nurses ensured the safety of all patients, including newborns undergoing treatment. Abhijit Das, a hospital staff member, reported that they noticed smoke coming from the second floor. Upon investigation, they found the fire in the changing room and immediately contacted the fire brigade while using dry powder fire extinguishers to manage the situation.
Despite the incident, Dr. Bharali confirmed that only a cupboard was burned and no significant damage occurred. All electrical equipment is currently being tested, and surgeries scheduled for the day has been canceled in consultation with the affected patients.
