
At 37th National Games Arunachal's Taba wins gold in weightlifting
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh weightlifter Kojum Taba, representing the Services Sports Control Board, won gold in the men’s 102 kg category at the 37th National Games at Campal Sports Village in Panjim, Goa on Thursday.
Taba lifted a total of 330kg (snatch 148kg + clean and jerk 182kg), beating Goa’s Shubham Verma and Assam’s MD Jameir Hussain, who won silver and bronze respectively.
Verma lifted 326 kg (snitch 143 kg + clean and jerk 183 kg), while Hussain lifted 145 kg in the snatch and 180 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 325 kg.
Taba’s was Arunachal Pradesh’s second gold medal at the 37th National Games, after Charu Pesi won gold in the men’s 61kg bodyweight category last Thursday.
Arunachal Pradesh has not won a single medal since Bengiya Tani won the first medal for the state last Thursday.
Sprinter Joti Mane will compete in the women’s 10,000 meters on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. National Games events are being telecasted on DD Sports.
