Assembly budget session of Meghalaya begins from March 20
Shillong: The budget session of the Meghalaya Assembly will begin from March 20, Speaker Thomas A. Sangma said on Monday.
He said that the state budget will be presented by Chief Minister Konrad K. Sangma on March 23.
The meeting calendar was approved in a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) chaired by the Speaker.
It was attended by Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong, who holds the portfolio of Parliamentary Affairs, UDP leader Lahkmen Rymbui and representatives of the opposition – TMC’s Charles Pyngrope and Congress’ Celestine Lyngdoh.
“The BAC decided that the budget session will be held from March 20 to March 28,” Thomas told PTI.
He said that the governor’s address will be on the first day of the meeting.
Thomas said there would be seven working days – government business allocated five days while private members’ business would be two days.
He said that the Deputy Speaker will be elected on the first day of the session.
He said that we will issue a notification on Tuesday so that interested candidates can file their nomination papers.
An assembly official said the Congress and the TMC, which have five MLAs, requested the Speaker to officially recognize them as parties in the opposition bench.
He said that VPP, which has four MLAs, has not submitted any such application.
