Guwahati: Assam will provide a package of Rs 50 crore for flood-hit Dima Hasao. The Assam government has announced a financial package of Rs 50 crore to provide relief to the flood and landslide affected people in Dima Hasao district and to rehabilitate various infrastructures damaged by natural calamities, an official statement said on Tuesday. As part of the financial assistance, Rs. 300 million will be provided for speedy reconstruction of critical roads.
The state government will provide Rs 2 lakh each to 590 families to help them rebuild their damaged houses, bringing the total allocation to Rs 11.80 crore
The decision on the rehabilitation package was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday night.
The release said that the Chief Minister also called for immediate steps for rehabilitation of important sectors.
Landslides and floods in the second week of May severely damaged the district’s roads and rail network, and officials indicated it would take months to restore communications.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in the state has improved considerably and most of the rivers are flowing below the danger mark.
Currently, more than 2.90 lakh people are affected by the floods in six districts, while the death toll is 36.
