Assam: Two killed as train collides with SUV at unmanned level crossing

Guwahati: Two people were killed when a train hit an unmanned level crossing in Assam’s Dhimaji district on Monday, police said.
In the Samrajan Panitola area of the district, the Naharlagan-Tansukia Intercity-Express collided with an SUV, killing one person on the spot and seriously injuring a woman who was rushed to the Assam Medical College Hospital in Dabrogarh.
Locals blocked the railway tracks in protest of the alleged indifference of the railway authorities in installing railway gates on the spot.
The blockade disrupted train services and was lifted in the afternoon when authorities assured locals that their demands would be conveyed to higher authorities for necessary action.
The deceased have been identified as 32-year-old Dimple Bergohin and 55-year-old Amaravati Dolly.
