Kamakhya Temple

New Delhi: In a major Supreme Court remark on Wednesday, India’s top court said the famous Kamakhya temple on the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati in Assam has not been properly maintained.

This was said by a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar while hearing a case related to the maintenance of the  temple in Assam’s Guwahati.
The Supreme Court said that no compromise can be made on hygiene.

“I went there during the holidays, and the temple is not being maintained properly. This is my personal opinion. There can be no compromise on hygiene,” said Justice Rastogi.
Senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan, appearing for the  temple, said that the Kamakhya temple is being maintained by expert organizations like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
Located on the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati, Assam, the  Temple is one of the oldest and most revered centers of Tantric practices.

The temple is the center of the Kulchara Tantra Marga and the site of the Ambubachi Mela, an annual festival that celebrates the goddess’s menstrual cycle.
The temple dates back to the 8th-9th century.

It is also one of the oldest of the 51 muscles of the Shakta tradition.
