Guwahati: Endangered monkeys , Police in Assam’s Hailakandi on Monday night rescued seven black men and arrested two people after a nearly 10-km chase.
According to reports, the police intercepted a vehicle at a check point in the Ramnathpur Chowk area. On checking the vehicle, the police found some boxes inside it and after asking the occupants what was in them, they tried to escape.
The police then had to chase the vehicle and caught them after about 10 km.
The vehicle was coming from Mizoram.
Police said that the arrested persons were drivers and all the animals were of endangered species.
They were from India and were allegedly smuggled from Myanmar.
The car was going towards Meghalaya.
The animals have been sent to Guwahati Zoo for further processing.
