Assam: Royal Bengal tigress found dead at Kaziranga, poisoning suspected
Guwahati: A female Royal Bengal Tiger has been found dead in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, authorities suspect she was poisoned.
“The body of a four-and-a-half-year-old lion was found at 2:45 pm on Tuesday in Sildubi , near the park’s prime tourist zone,” said Ramesh Gogoi, Eastern Assam Wildlife Divisional Forest Officer. Said.
He said the cause of death was suspected to be poisoning and a preliminary crime report has been submitted to the Bokakhat Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate.
The body of a cow was also found at the scene and it is suspected that the cow was poisoned and kept as fodder for the lion. Both bodies have been sent for autopsy.
Officials of Kaziranga Park said that the suspected poisoning of a tiger near Mihimukh, a prime tourist zone of Kaziranga National Park, was very disturbing news for all concerned.
Sources said that although the site of the incident is an additional area of Kaziranga National Park, “but this area has not yet been handed over to Kaziranga National Park Authority.”
