Assam Rifles complex to be inagurated by Amit Shah on 17 March

Aizawl: Amit Shah the Union Home Minister will inaugurate a new Assam Rifles complex in Mizoram on March 17, Chief Minister Zoramthanga said on February 28.

The chief minister told reporters that Shah would inaugurate the AR complex at Zokhawsang near Aizawl.

Shifting the Assam Rifles camp from the heart of Aizawl to Zokhawsang, about 15 km from the city, was among the top agendas of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) in the last assembly elections held in November 2018.
In February 2019, the Union Home Ministry directed the Assam Rifles to shift its battalion headquarters to Zokhawsang by May 31 this year.

The country’s oldest paramilitary force has two bases, the Assam Rifles in the city center at Zodin and Khatla.
The one in Zodin is being transferred to Zokhawsang. During a meeting with Amit Shah in November last year, Zoramthanga told the Union Home Minister that the delay in shifting the Assam Rifles camp was delaying infrastructure projects in the state capital.
On the other hand, Mizoram is gearing up to host the G20’s Business 20 (B20) from March 1 to March 3, 2023.
The B20 main conference, scheduled for March 2, 2023, will focus on opportunities for multilateral business partnerships in urban planning, infrastructure, bamboo, startups, skill development, handloom and handicraft, nursing and paramedics. It will be held in the premises of Mizoram University.
Addressing a press conference held at the CM Conference Hall, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said that the B20 meeting in Mizoram would help initiate discussions on identified priorities and work to formulate policy recommendations.
