Itanagar: Tensions erupted at the Assam Rifles camp in Miao, Changlang district, last night, following the alleged arrest of the village headman of Old Plone village. The arrest sparked a heated protest from villagers who gathered outside the camp, demanding the release of their leader.
In efforts to disperse the crowd, Assam Rifles personnel resorted to baton charges. However, the situation worsened as villagers retaliated by pelting stones at the camp, leading to several individuals sustaining serious injuries during the confrontation.
The escalating tensions drew the attention of senior Arunachal Pradesh Police officials, who quickly arrived at the scene. According to reports, after tense negotiations, the Assam Rifles were forced to release the detained headman, helping to restore peace in the area.
