Guwahati: An Assam police sub-inspector has been arrested in Nagaon district for allegedly taking bribe to facilitate the bail of an accused, an official release said on Sunday.
It said Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption officials on Saturday evening arrested another officer of the Kachwa police station on charges of corruption.
The Vigilance Directorate had received a complaint that the sub-inspector had demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to “provide bail to some acquaintances” of the complainant in connection with a non-cognizable offence.
Later he agreed to reduce the taking bribe amount to Rs 4000.
Based on the complaint, vigilance officials laid a trap at the Kachua police station, and the sub-inspector was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000, the release said.
The bribe money has been confiscated and legal action has been initiated against the arrested police official.
