Assam Police personal being held for 'sexual harassment' in station

Golaghat: An Assam police sub-inspector was arrested for sexually harassing a woman, who was accused of accepting money inside the women and children’s cell of Sivasagar police station, a senior officer said. Told on Sunday.

The sub-inspector has been identified as Ripjyoti Doley.
According to sources, the woman was picked up on Friday night after receiving a complaint from a local businessman that she was allegedly trying to extort money.

“While she was in custody at the Sivasagar police station, investigating officer Rip Jyoti Dole went to interrogate her after midnight. She then filed a complaint that the officer tried to sexually harass her.

Superintendent of Sivasagar police station Subharjyoti Bora said, “Based on the woman’s complaint, we arrested the SI on December 31 after a local-level inquiry accused him of defaming a woman. ”
“The incident took place in the presence of a lady constable, who is a key eyewitness, and shocked everyone. As the inquiry officer was her superior, the lady constable could not stop him and later narrated the entire incident. Narrated other top police officials,” Bora said.

The sub-inspector was produced in the judicial court. He has been released on bail,” Bora added.
He further said that a case under section 354/354(A) has been registered in Sivasagar police station in connection with the case and further investigation is on.
