Nagaon (Assam):Assam police officer suspended after arrest in corruption case , Assam Police officer Junmoni Rabha, who was arrested along with his ex-wife and jailed for alleged corruption in the league, has been suspended from service, a senior official said on Sunday.
Nagaon District Superintendent of Police Lena Dolly told reporters here that he was suspended in accordance with the law after his arrest by the Majuli district police.
Rabha, who was serving as a sub-inspector at the Kaliabor police station in Nagun, was arrested on Saturday after being interrogated for two days in a row. A Majuli district court remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
The suspended police officer gained notoriety when he arrested his fianc Rana Pogag last month on fraud charges.
Rabha had lodged an FIR against Pogag alleging that he had deceived some people by promising them jobs and contracts in ONGC. He has since been arrested on fraud charges and is currently being held in Majuli Jail.
Later, several allegations were made against Rabha that she was in the league with Pogag, who had collected money from her. An inquiry into the allegations was ordered.
The two contractors complained to the police that they had made financial deals with her ex-boyfriend when Rabha introduced him to her while she was posted at Majuli. He asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture.
