Five minors were arrested by police in Silchar May 29 with their guardians when they were found traveling without valid documents.
Police detained 26 Rohingyas, including 12 children, six men and eight women from Jammu and Kashmir, on May 29 on Central Road in Silchar after they failed to produce any valid documents.
Later, they were arrested, and the adults were sent to the Silchar Detention Center inside Silchar Central Prison. The minors, on the other hand, were sent to a government observation home in Meherpur, Silchar.
A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited Selcher after the incident and questioned the Rohingyas at the detention center.
Sources said that the superintendent of the observation home had reported the matter to the police. According to the complainant, seven juvenile boys, including five juvenile Rohingyas, escaped from the observation home on July 1. He appealed to the police authorities to investigate the matter and trace the fugitives.
According to information available from the observation home. Most of the rooms had been submerged since June 20, and the children took advantage of the situation. They broke through a wall of the observation home and managed to escape. Five underage Rohingya escaped with two local children living in the center.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Kaur told reporters that he had received a complaint and the matter was being investigated.
“We have received a complaint recently, and we are investigating the matter. Our team is trying to arrest them first, then we will interrogate them. We will also look into this.” Trying to figure out how they managed to escape from the observation home, ”said Kaur.
