Dhubri (Assam): Assam: Police Killed a wanted person. A man suspected to be linked to militant elements and involved in cattle smuggling was killed in an encounter with police near the inter-state border with West Bengal on Wednesday, an Assam police officer said.
The officer said that two policemen were also attacked.
Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gaur said that a police team from Dhubri district launched an operation last midnight following a tip-off about the movement of a person identified as Adam Ali and his associates in the inter-state border areas. was
We had information that Adam Ali and his associates would visit the area for an arms deal. Accordingly, our team left for the operation, he said.
The SP said that Ali was arrested in the operation but other members of the gang tried to escape.
Law enforcers chased down the gang members who opened fire on the policemen in the Roopsee area and in the ensuing gun battle, Ali and two policemen sustained bullet injuries, Gaurav said.
All three were taken to the hospital where Ali was declared brought dead. He said that both the police officers are out of danger.
He said that other criminals managed to escape.
Ali was also wanted in several other cases including money laundering and possession of illegal arms.
In addition, at least 55 people have been killed and 140 injured in police action for allegedly escaping from custody or attacking officials since the BJP government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took power in May 2021.
