Guwahati: Senior IAS officer Paban Kumar Borthakar took charge as the new Chief Secretary of Assam on Thursday.
He replaces Jishnu Barwa, who retired from service on Wednesday.
Borthakar, a 1989 batch IAS officer, was serving as Additional Chief Secretary to the state government in the Departments of Transformation and Development, Cultural Affairs and Tourism.
Paban Kumar Borthakar is also the Chairman of Assam Administrative Tribunal.
Barwa will continue as Chairman of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) for a period of two years or until further orders.
In a rare gesture, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with Education Minister Ranuj Pegu met the outgoing Chief Secretary on his last day at his office.
“Working with Chief Secretary Shri Jishnu Barwa, who is known for his efficient way of working, has been a pleasant experience.
The IAS officer has had an illustrious career in public service spanning over three decades.
In office On his last day, I wish him good health and happiness,” Sarma tweeted.
