Assam: Nine 'Maoists' approach government for surrender

Guwahati: At least nine people, who claim to be maoists, have approached the Assam government for surrender.

One in nine people who approached the Assam government to surrender had known links with left-wing extremists.

However, the Assam government has no police records of the other eight persons who claimed to be Maoists.

Police in Assam’s Dibrugarh district have already detained all nine persons.
Police in Assam’s Dibrugarh district are now trying to verify the claims of the nine arrested.

Verification of such claims becomes a necessity for the government as many try to portray themselves as militants or Maoists and make the surrenderers surrender to receive various benefits from the government. .
