Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Maoist rebel from West Bengal’s Mahispata for his alleged involvement in a NIA arrests CPI leader case in south Assam’s Cachar district.
The alleged Maoist leader, identified as Samrat Chakraborty alias Amit alias Argha, was nabbed from West Bengal’s Kalyani Expressway on Monday.
The case relates to the arrest of veteran Maoist leader Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee alias Jyotish alias Kabir alias Kanchan Da, a West Bengal Central Committee member and NIA arrests CPI leader ideologue and strategist.
On September 2, the NIA filed a charge sheet against the six arrested Maoists in a special NIA court in Guwahati.
Central Investigation Agency’s Guwahati wing revealed that Samrat was the liaison between the Maoist leadership and arrested Maoist leader Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee.
“He was a linkman in secret communication between the top echelons of the organization and Arun Bhattacharjee, who was operating from his hideout in Assam,” the NIA said.
Samrat also visited Cachar in Assam to assist Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee in setting up activities for the banned outfit.
