Assam: Mother and baby die in Chibwa fire

Dibrugarh: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old woman and her one-year-old child were gutted to death in their house after a massive fire broke out in Upper Assam’s Chabua on Sunday night.

The mother, identified as Punam Gowala, and her son were burnt alive when their house caught fire while they were sleeping.

The incident was reported from Betioni village of Panitiola in Dibrugarh district.

According to reports, the house was completely gutted due to fire.

Fire tenders reached the spot and brought the fire under control, but the mother and her child could not survive.

“Most of the villagers were in a theater (Bhoona) nearby when the incident took place,” a source said.

Meanwhile, the police have started investigating the matter to find out the actual cause of the fire.
