Assam: Mob lynches mentally unstable man for murder of 4-yr-old boy

A mentally disturbed man in his 30s was killed by a mob enraged by the killing of a 4-year-old boy in a tea garden in Assam on Saturday, police said.

The incident had created chaos in Dhaljan Tea Garden in Dibrugarh district, after which a team of Dibrugarh police led by Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra reached the spot.

Talking to EastMojo, SP Mishra said that the situation has been brought under control and the bodies have been sent for autopsy.

Mishra said, “The victim, identified as Sunit Tanti alias Abhimanyu Tanti, allegedly killed a 4-year-old boy in his neighborhood after which a mob from the line attacked him. They attacked and killed him, “Mishra said.

The SP added, “His body was found burnt.

The incident took place around 6 pm on Saturday.

According to preliminary information, Tanti was found to be mentally unstable, Mishra said. He said it was not immediately clear why he killed the boy.

“We have registered a case of assault and when the situation calms down, we will start an investigation,” he added.
