Assam: minor girl suffers with wrist injuries in dynamite explosion

Guwahati: A minor girl was seriously injured in an explosion of dynamite used in mines in Assam’s Sonitpur district.

The incident took place near Bandarguri village in Bhalukpong on Thursday afternoon.
Following the incident, the injured girl, identified as 14-year-old Rashmi Basumatary, was taken to Tezpur Medical Hospital for treatment. He was later referred to Guwahati Medical Hospital for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the local police reached the spot and are conducting further investigation. Police said Rashmi found a bag at the railway station while returning from school and brought it home. The explosion occurred when he tried to connect the detonator to the dynamite.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the location of a bag containing high-quality dynamite near the railway station, which left a minor girl seriously injured.
“She was probably curious about what it was and wanted to play with it. There was a detonator and we found batteries at her residence. She must have tried to attach the detonator after which it went off. We “We are investigating who brought it and why as it was found from the railway station and was of high quality,” said a senior police official.
The 14-year-old was brought to GMCH late Thursday night. According to GMCH Superintendent Dr. Abhijit Sarma, the minor girl sustained multiple injuries including her left wrist and left eye. Both will have to be operated soon.
“His left wrist joint is completely severed in the blast,” Sarma said.

“One of her eyeballs is also ruptured. She also has multiple internal injuries on her left chest, arms and upper abdomen. She was hemodynamically stable when she was brought to GMCH. As per my information, we have will have to undergo revision amputation surgery on his left wrist,” added Sarma.
