Assam: Mewani was remanded in police custody for five days in connection with the attack.
Barpeta: Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani was remanded to five days in police care on Tuesday by a court in Assam’s Barpeta area in an attack case recorded by a lady cop.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Mukul Chetia remanded Mevani to police guardianship when he was created in his court in the early evening.
Mevani has been reserved under IPC areas 294 (articulating foul words out in the open), 323 (deliberately causing hurt), 353 (attacking a local official in the execution of obligation) and 354 (utilizing criminal power to a lady aiming to shock her humility).
He was captured for this situation on Monday not long after he was delivered on bail in one more case in Kokrajhar local.
Mevani, an Independent MLA supported by the Congress, was first captured on April 19 from Palanpur town in Gujarat, and was brought to Kokrajhar for tweeting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It is affirmed that he attacked the lady official when she was going with him from Guwahati air terminal to Kokrajhar alongside senior cops.
