Shillong: A one-member commission of inquiry headed by Justice (Retd.) Tinlianthang Vaiphei has issued notices to the DGPs of Assam and Meghalaya and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) of Assam in connection with the firing in Makroh with Inter. Assam Meghalaya Border Firing, In a notification issued on Friday, Justice Wifi said that notices under Rule 5 (2) (a) of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 would be issued to the DGP of Assam and the PCCF of Assam to the Commission so that A statement on the matter may be submitted to the Commission. Justice Wifi added that if the documents are not in his possession or control, he should give the names and addresses of the persons from whom the rest of the documents can be obtained.
Justice Vaiphei also ordered the Meghalaya DGP to issue a notice to the commission on or before December 29.

“Steps should be taken by the Secretary of the Commission to issue this notice within three working days,” the notification said.

The Meghalaya government had set up a one-member commission of inquiry headed by Justice Vaiphei to probe the November 23 heinous incident, in which six people, including five citizens of the state and a forest guard from Assam, had died.
