GUWAHATI: Kuki Ibadat Service, Guwahati today celebrated its ‘Silver Jubilee’ at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in the heart of the city which was attended by thousands of its members.
Today’s celebration is the second such celebration after its regular meeting was held on November 17 at the church campus on the city’s VIP Road by Reverend M Haokhothong with a jubilee plague dedication.
Based on the theme ‘For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ’, today’s celebration saw the participation of Kukis from all walks of life in the capital Guwahati. Rev Bishop Paothang Haokip delivered the Jubilee Message on the fragrance of Christ.
He urged the congregation to be the fragrance of Christ wherever they are and to unite for the glory of the Lord.
The event was attended by many church leaders and representatives of various branches of the Kuki worship service across the country, in addition to a few notable names like Rev. Dino Toothing, Rev. Dr. Jangkholam Haokip and DP Haokip.
During the ceremony, the church secretary briefly highlighted the humble beginnings of the church and acknowledged the contributions of past leaders in the growth of the church. A commemorative publication was also released during the event.
The idea of the Kuki worship service came into being to meet the spiritual needs of Kukis in cities across the country with the same principle, KWS Guwahati was started in 1997.
At present, the church administration is headed by Ng Tothang as Chairman and Letcha Haokip as Secretary while Reverend Akhai Touthang serves as the spiritual head of KWS Guwahati.
At present, there are about 20 KWS churches spread across prominent cities in India and four churches abroad, all under the Council of Kuki Worship Service, a non-denominational organization of churches in Kukis.
