Assam: Indian army, IOC and NGO signs MoU for centre of excellence

Tinsukia: The Indian Army’s Spare Corps, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and an NGO based in Kanpur on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a Joint Center for Excellence and Welfare in Tinsukia district of Assam. Have done

 

Under the Rs 1.5 crore initiative, which aims to empower students to better prepare themselves for competitive examinations, a total of 45 non-privileged students get free residential coaching for a period of 12 months.

The Spear Corps, one of the 13 corps of the Indian Army, will look after the infrastructure and management role, while, as a corporate partner, IOCL will provide funding support and support the NGO, National Integrity and Educational Development. Organization (NIEDO), will be the implementation partner.

 

According to an army source, the project is worth the effort to secure a better future for the youth of Assam. It will be a full-time residency program for 12 months to mentor and guide at least 45 Assamese youth for the entrance examinations of various medical and engineering colleges in India.

 

Army sources said that an estimated Rs 25-26 lakh would be spent on setting up infrastructure with basic facilities for 45 students.

 

“The military will oversee overall operations, including administration and logistics, with the required funding support through the IOCL,” the source added.

 

The first batch of this initiative is scheduled to start in June this year.

NIEDO CEO Rohit Srivastava said that a team of seven faculty members would be stationed at the center in Pengree. “It will include 5 full-time teacher-cum-professors, one academic manager and one administrative manager.”

 

“Students from family backgrounds with an annual income of less than Rs 3.5 lakh will be eligible for coaching,” said Srivastava, highlighting the selection criteria for students. “Students will be required to score at least 55% in a standard 12 combination of Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB) or Physics-Chemistry-Biology-Mathematics (PCB).

 

The MoU was signed by Spear Corps Brigadier Sachin Mehta, IOCL Director (HR) Ranjan Kumar Mahapatra and Commander of the Red Shield Division’s Albert Eka Brigade under Rohit Srivastava of NIEDO.
