Guwahati: A local court in Golaghat district of Upper Assam has allowed a 19-year-old student of Jorhat DCB College arrested for ‘pro-ULFA poem’ , who is in jail, to appear for the BSc second semester examination in police custody.
In Golaghat, the Sessions Judge directed the District Magistrate to make appropriate arrangements for the participation of the student in the examination held in police custody for the required period from the commencement to the end of the examination.
Arrested for ‘pro-ULFA poem’ and the court directed that the student be brought to the examination center for his participation and after the examination he be remanded in jail.
Barshashree Buragohain has been in jail since May for allegedly supporting the banned rebel group ULFA (I) on his Facebook post.
Barshashree, who hails from Teok in Jorhat district, was arrested on May 18 this year from Uriamghat in Golaghat district for his so-called ‘Eco Quorum Rashtra Droha’ (will revolt against the country again).۔
Barshashree’s arrest has provoked a widespread reaction across the state, with student organizations, opposition parties and intellectuals demanding his immediate release.
