Guwahati: Former minister and three-time Congress MLA Bismita Gogoi is likely to resign from the party and join the BJP.

Sources said that Bismita Gogoi , 50, is all set to join the BJP on April 28 at a function in Dibrugarh , Upper Assam in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister Modi will visit Dibrugarh on April 28 to inaugurate seven new cancer hospitals.
Sources said that Gogoi , a former MLA from Khumtai , had recently met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and expressed his desire to join the BJP.

A picture of Bismita Gogoi with Chief Minister Sharma has surfaced on social media.

Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi was available during the Chief Minister’s gathering with Bismita Gogoi.

Basmita Gogoi was the Minister of Cultural Affairs, Handloom, Textiles, Silk Agriculture and Welfare of Backward Classes in the previous Congress government from 2015 to 2016.

In 2018, she was appointed General Secretary of the All India Mahila Congress.

Gogoi is the daughter-in-law of the late Jiba Kanta Gogoi, a former speaker of the Assam Assembly and a senior Congress leader.
