Tinsukia: Assam floods: 2 police personnel dead in Nagaon rescue operation. Demonstrating great bravery, a sub-inspector of Assam Police lost his life in an attempt to save his comrade by jumping into a river in Assam’s Nagun district on Sunday night.
The bodies of Samujjal Kakoti, an officer-in-charge of Kampur police station in central Assam, were recovered on Monday morning. Constable Rajiv Bordoloi also lost his life in the accident.
According to police sources, some people were reported drowning in flood waters in Madhopur area late on Sunday night.
“To save his comrades, Kakotijumped into the water and was not found overnight,” said a source.
Earlier, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services and police teams launched a search and rescue operation. The services of deep divers were also suppressed.
The development comes amid continuous rains that have left the state battling floods and landslides, killing more than 62 people so far.
