Assam flood situation worsens: 10 more die, over 55 lakh affected.
The flood situation in Assam worsened on Tuesday, affecting 5.5 million people in 32 districts and claiming seven more lives, officials said.
He said that along with Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, their tributaries are also rising.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who visited relief camps in flood-hit Nalbari and Kamrup districts, said a package would be announced soon.
“Our government will soon launch a portal for the affected people to register the loss of their livestock and other damages caused by the floods. A flood relief package will also be announced soon,” he said.
Karimganj and Kechhar are badly affected by the rising waters of Barak and Kashiara.
In Cachar, 2.16 lakh people were affected in 506 villages, while in Karimganj, 1.47 lakh people were affected in 454 villages, officials said.
Many areas of Selcher were flooded. A total of 425 people were rescued and 10,468 people were housed in 57 relief camps, he said.
