After reviewing the law and order situation in Assam, the state government has declared the entire state of Assam a “troubled area” for six months.

The order came into force on February 28 and will remain in force until the state government withdraws it. This declaration is in accordance with the powers vested in him under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.

The Act was enacted in November 1990 in Assam. The last extension orders were issued in September 2021 and came into force on August 28.

Assam had the lowest number of 15 insurgent incidents in 2020-21, according to data released by the Home Ministry.
