Amy Baroah’s Semkhor shooting

GUWAHATI: The troubles of Amy Baruah’s Dimasa film Semkhor seem to be endless.

At least five Dimasa organizations have alleged that an 84-day-old baby died during the shooting of Amy Baruah’s film Semkhor, which has been the subject of widespread controversy.
Five Dimasa bodies have now written a letter to President Draupadi Murmu demanding justice for the family of the girl who died during the shooting of the film at Semkhor in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

The Dimasa organizations in Assam that have written to President Droupadi Murmu are Jadikhe Nesho Hoshom (JNH- Dimasa apex body), All Dimasa Students Union (ADSU), Dima Hasao District Committee, Dimasa Students Union (DSU), Central Committee, United Dimasa Youth. (UDY) and Dimasa Students Community Guwahati (DSCG).
“An 84-day-old baby died of cold four days after the shooting of the film Simkhor,” the organizations alleged.
The organizations allege that “Amy Baroah did not follow strict legal norms while shooting the film Semkhor in Dima Hasav district and as a result, a girl child lost her life after being cast in the film.”
“The girl was only 84 days old when the film was shot and due to the cold and inclement weather during the shooting of the film, the girl fell ill and died four days later,” he said in the memorandum.
“It is a clear case that Amy Baroah did not take permission from the District Magistrate before filming an infant in the film as per the Child and Adolescent Labor (Prohibition) and Regulation) Act (CALPRA), 1986. Violation of laws,” he said.

“We hereby request your intervention in this matter and represent ourselves before you to seek justice,” he added.
Copies of the memorandum were also sent to Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Assamese actor Amy Baruah is in legal trouble as a case has been filed against her for misrepresenting the Dimasa community in her award-winning film ‘Semkhor’.
