Guwahati: Amid the crackdown on Muslim jihadist in Assam, state Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Sunday met representatives of Islamic organizations in the state.
During his meeting with representatives of Islamic organizations, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta sought the groups’ cooperation in cracking down on jihadist modules in the state.
Notably, the meeting took place at a time when the Assam Police had made several arrests for alleged links with terrorist groups Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
“Today, we met Islamic organizations across the state. Without their cooperation, we could not have dismantled Al-Qaeda and ABT modules in the state. Assam DGP Mahanta told news agency ANI.
“There are 1,000 private madrasas in the state. All operate on different principles according to their own beliefs. We have asked all of them to upload their rules online, giving them some time to do so,” he said. added.
Earlier, Assam DGP – Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had said that some anti-radicalisation measures have been initiated to deal with the growing network of jihadists in the state.
The DGP of Assam added that several Muslim jihadist modules groups have also been taken into confidence, who in turn have promised support in cracking down on jihadist elements in the state.
