Assam: Dead body of leopard found in Meijan Tea State
Dibrugarh: A dead body of a leopard was found on Monday morning in Meijan Tea estate of Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
Sources said the leopard was found dead near Maijan tea factory in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
Tea garden workers found the leopard’s carcass on Monday morning while they were plucking tea leaves.
“Forest department officials came and took the body of the leopard for post-mortem. A local resident said that the leopard must have died 2-3 days ago.
Leopards often enter tea garden areas in search of food.
“The leopard takes away our domestic animals. Our children are afraid to go outside. Recently, many leopards were caged in our tea estate,” said the local.
In recent times, several incidents of human-animal fighting have been reported from different parts of Assam.
Experts say that due to the shrinking of the forest area, the big cats come out of the forest in search of food and enter human habitations, resulting in human-animal conflicts.
