GUWAHATI: Assam cyclist Ripunjoy and Dhiraj Dutta finishes 1500-km London-Edinburgh-London event . One of cycling’s toughest events, the 1,500km London-Edinburgh-London self-supported cycle ride across the UK, witnessed a massive turnout of 1,900 cyclists from around the world after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus.
After the British, Indians formed the second largest nationality in the event with 172 participants. And Northeast India was represented by two keen cyclists from Assam, Ripunjoy and Dhiraj Dutta.
Gogoi managed to successfully complete the entire 1500 km route, Dutta had to end his journey midway due to technical problems.
Ripunjoy Gogoi, a 28-year-old computer engineer, is an avid cyclist who has successfully completed several long-distance events in the past. He is also a super randonneur, having completed the CKB (Climb Ka Baap), a 1200 km long trek with an elevation gain of over 14,500 meters.
The London-Edinburgh-London Cycle Ride, between the iconic capital cities of England and Scotland, is considered one of the most challenging cycling events in the UK, testing the mental and physical resilience of participants, with a total of 1,500 riders. Kilometers have to be covered. Along the route in 125 hours, there are 13 control points where participants are provided with hot food, drinks, showers and towels, hostel beds and mechanical support.
