Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed deep grief over the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, saying she was an epitome of simplicity and humility.
Modi’s mother Hiraben died in a hospital in Ahmedabad on Friday.
“For 100 wonderful years, Heera Bean Maa blessed us all with her love. She was a symbol of simplicity, humility and faith,” Sarma tweeted.
“As she leaves for the heavenly home, with tearful eyes, I join the prayers of millions. May her blessings be with us always,” he said.
In another tweet, the Chief Minister said that mother is the first teacher of a child and the world lies at her feet.
Sarma added, “Respected Heeraben has dedicated a son committed to the advancement of religion, nation and society to Mother India.”
Union Minister for Ports and Shipping Sarbananda Sonowal also expressed condolences on the death of Modi’s mother.
“There is nothing that can fill the void left behind by the loss of one’s mother. My heartfelt condolences to the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Om Shanti,” Sonowal said in a statement.
