Assam CM on CPI(M): In Tripura Red flag represents poor’s blood

Agartala: Criticizing the CPI(M), Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday claimed that the party’s red flag symbolized the blood of the poor, which is why it has been shown the exit door in Indian politics.

Addressing a public meeting in Killa assembly constituency under Tripura’s Gomati district, Sarma said, “The CPI(M) has exploited the poor people for years. The red flag that the CPI(M) hangs in its party offices represents the blood of poor and innocent people. Disillusioned with his politics, the people of the country have overwhelmingly rejected him and shown the door to the CPI(M). This is exactly what happened here in Tripura in 2018.
Sarma addressed two political rallies in Gomati district and took part in a road show to canvass for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Recalling his role as poll in-charge ahead of the 2018 assembly elections, the Assam chief minister said, “I can still vividly remember when I was in-charge of the Tripura elections in 2018, we did social pension. promised to increase from Rs.5000 to Rs.700 to 2000. Even I doubted whether it would be possible for us.But, Chief Minister Dr.Manik Saha made it possible.
Highlighting the achievements of the government under Dr Manik Saha, Sarma said he would seek the guidance of the Tripura Chief Minister to understand how to deliver benefits despite limited resources.
Assam and Tripura are considered among the smallest states in the country. Earlier we were classified as poor states but now we have managed to rise above this rank to some extent. Despite limited resources, the Tripura government increased DA by 12 percent, increased social pension, and fully implemented all centrally sponsored schemes. After the elections, I will seek guidance from Dr. Saha to understand how we should extend these benefits. Despite being a large state, Assam has less DA and social pension,” pointed out Sarma.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who was also present, said the BJP had restored the democratic setup of institutions in Tripura that were once run by cadres.

The presence of people in Jalsa Aam makes it clear that BJP is definitely retaining power. The violent political culture endorsed by the Left and the CPI(M) for the past 35 years is yet to face a massive rejection in the coming elections,” said Dr Saha.
