In upper Assam ULFA (I) launches new extortion campaign
Guwahati: The Assam government is directly or indirectly in touch with the ULFA(I) leadership to bring them to the negotiating table, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said.
Chief minister Sarma, who also holds the home portfolio, told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday that efforts were on to bring the Paresh Baruah-led ULFA (I) into talks with the government.
“We have told people about the problems we have with the ULFA(I). However, despite this, we are directly and indirectly in touch with the leadership of the ULFA. Hoping for a solution,” Sarma said.
About the peace talks with KLO chief Jiban Singha, Sarma said, “He (Jiban Singha) has joined the mainstream a few days back…let him rest for some time and then he will start talks with the government.” Will do.”
The Sangha along with nine members of his organization surrendered to the security forces in Longwa area of Nagaland’s Mon district last Friday.
