Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered the release of 36 job seekers who were arrested last week for protesting outside the Assam police headquarters in Guwahati.

According to a statement from the Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the state police department to look into the matter sympathetically and take steps for his early release.

Thirty-six job seekers were arrested last week for protesting outside the Assam police headquarters in Guwahati, demanding the announcement of the results of a constable recruitment test held in February.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing 115 protesters by truck.

The arrested job seekers were booked at the Paltan Bazar police station in Guwahati and a case was registered against them under the provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
