KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal Police Department to submit its investigation report into the Faizan Ahmed death case.
On October 14, Faizan Ahmed, a boy from Assam, was found dead in his hostel room at IIT-Kharagpur.
The Calcutta High Court was hearing a petition filed by Faizan Ahmed’s father.
The petition has demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the death of Faizan Ahmed, a boy from Assam.
Additionally, the Calcutta High Court has also directed the SP of West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district to depute a senior officer to oversee the investigation into the death of Faizan Ahmed, a boy from Assam.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had written to his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee asking her to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Faizan Ahmed, an IIT Kharagpur student from Tinsukia.
Faizan Ahmed, a third-year mechanical engineering student of IIT Kharagpur, who hailed from Tinsukia district in eastern Assam, was found dead in his hostel room on October 14.
On seeing her dead body, her parents registered a case with the local police in Kharagpur and requested an investigation from the Superintending of Police (SP), West Bengal, Paschim Medinipur and Inspector-in-charge of Kharagpur (Town) Police Station.
The deceased – 23-year-old Faizan Ahmed – was a third-year mechanical engineering student of IIT-Kharagpur.
