ASSAM: Boxer arrested for supporting ULFA (I) gets bail

GUWAHATI:Boxer arrested for supporting ULFA (I) gets bail. A young wushu athlete and boxer from Mornhat in upper Assam who was arrested for supporting the banned ULFA-I has been cleared by a court, an official said on Saturday.

Meena Chutia, 23, was arrested for allegedly commenting on a Facebook post written in favor of ULFA-I.

Chutia had expressed his willingness to join the ULFA-I through social media and was arrested as per the law of the land, Superintendent of Police of Charideo district Yuvraj Soro told IANS.
She is alleged to have written on Facebook: “I will join ULFA if I get any link. I love ULFA-I.”

A lower court in Charideo district granted bail to Chautia on Friday. He spent more than a month and a half in jail.

His comment on Facebook came under police cyber cell and a team from Mornhat police station went to the player’s house and arrested him on June 17.
After coming out of jail, Chutia said: “It was difficult to spend so many days in jail, but I could learn some good things there.”

According to reports, she will participate in the Wushu tournament to be held in Guwahati from Sunday.

It is worth noting that a college student from Jorhat, Barashree Burgohain, was also in jail for supporting ULFA-I. He was recently granted bail by the Guwahati High Court. However, another youth from Shivsagar district, Batuppan Chungmai, is still in jail for commenting on Brashshri’s Facebook post.
