Guwahati: A local court in Lower Assam’s Barpeta district on Thursday reserved its judgment on a bail application in the “assault” case of Gujarat MLA Jaganesh Mevani’s .
Jignesh Mevani was re-arrested by Assam Police on April 25 after being granted bail in connection with controversial tweets against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He was re-arrested on charges of molesting and abusing a female police officer.
Mevani’s lawyer, Angshuman Bora, said the Barpeta District and Sessions Court had reserved its decision on his bail application until Friday.

“We put our arguments before the court. The prosecution tried to adjourn the hearing. But the court rejected it and asked them to present their arguments today,” he said.

Dalit leader Jignesh Mewani was arrested by Gujarat police from Gujarat last week for tweeting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “considers Godse to be God”.
