Assam: Barpeta court grants bail to Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani in “assault” case

Guwahati: A local court in Lower Assam’s Barpeta district on Friday granted bail to Gujarat MLA Jaganesh Mewani in an ‘assault’ case registered at the Barpeta Road police station.
Jignesh Mevani was re-arrested in an alleged attack case after he was granted bail by a Kokrajhar court on April 25 for tweeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The District and Sessions Court granted bail to Jignesh Mevani for presenting a bond of Rs.1000 in connection with the case.
Dalit leader Mevani was re-arrested on charges of “assaulting and inciting” the politeness of a female police officer.
A case was registered against Jignesh Mevani at Barpeta Road police station.
Mevani was first arrested by a team of Assam Police from Palanpur in Gujarat on the basis of a complaint lodged by the BJP leader at the Kokrajhar police station.
Mevani called his arrest “revenge politics by the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office).”
This is a conspiracy of BJP and RSS. They did this to tarnish my image. They have been doing this systematically. They did it with Rohit Vemula, they did it with Chandra Shekhar Azad, now they are targeting me, ”said Mevani .
