Assam-Arunachal border dispute: Important meeting in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: An important meeting on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border dispute was held at Joypur IB in Neharkatiya in Dibrugarh district of Assam on Wednesday.

The Namsang area was discussed during the meeting and delegations from both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh visited the area to review the situation.

On behalf of Arunachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet Minister Wangkee Luang, Borduria MLA Wanglin Luagdong, Tarup Deputy Commissioner Taro Mize, ADC Deomali and DFO Deomali participated in the meeting.
Nehrakatiya MLA Taranga Gogoi, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, Dibrugarh SP Shuyank Mishra, ADC Biswajit Phukan and Nehrakatiya Circle Officer Sarat Gogoi were represented.
Speaking to the media, Arunachal Pradesh Minister Wang Ki Luang said that there are border disputes between Assam and Arunachal. But issues will be resolved through dialogue and negotiation. We are committed to resolving border disputes amicably.”
Assam MLA Taranga Gogoi said, “We have visited the disputed Namsang area and the report will be submitted to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tomorrow. We are confident that this time the border issue between the two states will be resolved.

Recently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Assam-Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu signed an agreement to end the decades-old border dispute between the two states.

The two leaders agreed to limit the number of competing villages to 86 instead of 123.
