Assam: Another Nagaon Paper Mill employee killed, death toll rises to 102

Guwahati: Another sick employee of Nagaon Paper Mill died on Friday morning, bringing the death toll of two workers of Assam-based Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL) to 102.

Muhammad Sarifuddin Ahmed (57), a resident of Nagaon Paper Mill, HPC Quarters, Morigaon District, was brought to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after being found unconscious on the roadside near Paper Mill on Jagiroad.

“As a matter of fact, every living worker is going through a day with unbearable pain, stress and trauma. Are unable to meet, “said Chakraborty.

Cachar Paper Mill in Panchgram of Hailakandi District and Nagaon Paper Mill in Jagiroad of Morigaon have been inactive since October 2015 and March 2017 respectively.

An agreement was signed (in liquidation) between the representatives of the Officers and Supervisors ‘Unions and the HPCL workers’ unions and the Government of Assam.

The Cabinet meeting on September 30, 2021 approved a relief package of Rs.700 crore.
