Tinsukia: The bomb squad successfully detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) recovered in Assam’s Tansukia on Sunday, hours after recovering the explosives.
A bomb squad team assisted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recovered the IED and detonated it at a safe place in Dirak village of Tansukia.
The blast was carried out under the supervision of experts and took place in an open field near Dirak Gate.
It may be noted that the explosives were recovered from Mahadeopur in Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh, near the state border with Assam’s Tinsukia.
Earlier in the day, several reports emerged claiming that an IED had been recovered in a sensational incident in Assam’s Tinsukia district. The IED was reportedly recovered from Dirak Gate in Tinsukia.
According to reports, the three youths allegedly escaped on seeing the CRPF troops who were on their routine checking in Dirak.
The IED was found wrapped in a green bag and kept inside black plastic. It was placed near a wall so as not to attract attention.
The officials suspect that the youth had taken the IED to the spot. Meanwhile, bomb disposal squad and local police immediately reached the spot. Along with the search operation, the investigation has been started to arrest the accused.
In a joint operation in Bihar’s Maoist-hit Aurangabad on January 28, CRPF and Bihar Police seized 162 IEDs and other equipment.
In a statement, the CRPF said, “With tough operations by the CRPF and Bihar Police against the banned Maoists, the state is moving towards normalcy. The operation continues in the areas previously occupied by the Maoists.” were believed to be strongholds, with the aim of disabling IEDs planted by the Maoists and recovering arms and ammunition they may have hidden in their hasty escape.”
“In a search and destroy operation by the CRPF and Bihar Police in the Laduiya Pahar area of Aurangabad on January 27, 13 pressure IEDs were initially detected,” the statement said.
