Assam: All three accused nabbed for gangrape of minor in Kokrajhar
Guwahati: The third and last of the three accused in the gang-rape of a minor girl in Assam’s Kokrajhar district has been arrested, Assam police said on Wednesday.
A 16-year-old girl was gang-raped by three men in Dholmara village on Monday night as she was returning home from a nearby shop. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Gyanendra Pratap Singh tweeted, “Reference to the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Salakati, Kokrajhar – all three accused were arrested last evening.”
He said that Kokrajhar police would ensure timely submission of charge sheet, after which a speedy trial would be held.
The FIR, lodged by the survivor’s father, was registered at Kokrajhar police station under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
The All Coach-Rajabungshi Students Union (AKRSU) and several political and social organizations have strongly condemned the incident and called for severe punishment for the perpetrators.
